FREQUENTLY ASKED "FULDA GAP AIRSOFT" QUESTIONS
1. Is camping available?
Yes, we have restrooms (port a johns), but no "real" showers. It is free to camp but camping space is limited and based on first come first served policy. Reserving space for other campers will be discouraged. All campers must abide by the camping rules. We will also have potable water available for all campers as well. Campers and RV's are welcome in the camping area, but for convenience we may have a camper section. Generators are permitted, but we ask you turn them off by 11pm.
2. What is the age limit?
Our insurance regulations have changed beginning in 2016. The field may now only permit those players 12 years of age, or older. CDWC retains the right to refuse admission to anyone who appears younger than 12 and who cannot provide evidence of their legal age. CDWC also has the right to request identification to verify age. Your parents must sign your waiver if under 18. There are SPECIFIC face protection requirements for those 18 and under. See Rule #3. We would prefer 15 or older, if not accompanied by parents.
3. What kind of eye protection must I wear during the game?
Without exception, ALL players must wear FULL SEAL NON MESH eye protection. By full seal, we mean that there must be a gasket seal between the goggles and the players skin! Tight fitting glasses are not enough to satisfy our insurance requirement. Players under the age of 18 MUST wear full face protection. We are asked quite often if under 18 players can wear full seal goggles with a shemagh (scarf), or a balaclava. The answer, as verified by our insurance agency is YES: as long as the player's eyes, ears, nose, and mouth are protected. We often suggest that players make their lives easier and simply use a mask designed for paintball use that meets the ASTM standards. The store at Command Decisions Wargames Center is happy to rent out paintball masks for $10.00 a day for those without the proper equipment. Many of the vendors at Fulda Gap offer numerous styles of the proper eye protection for sale as well. Generally, a good pair of full seal goggles costs between $10-$25.00.
Here are a few examples of what is considered appropriate eye protection and some full face protection (suggested for everyone but mandatory for anyone under 18 years of age) examples are:Most recently, we've been asked if players can wear gas masks. The answer to this is no for two reasons. The first is that they do not meet the safety requirements (lenses are not ASTM qualified) and the other is that the game producer will not acknowledge players as being "safe" with a gas mask on in the "chemical weapons" attacks.
4. What happens when I get hit by a BB?
YELL HIT HIT HIT as loud as you can and immediately cover your head or your gun muzzle with your red "dead rag". Raise your gun barrel up towards the sky and when safe to do so, walk out of your position to your nearest dead zone. You will be required to go to a "Dead Zone" or recharge area. You will then be recycled back into the game. You can do this as often as necessary. Gun hits DO COUNT. Airsoft, as a sport, relies on honest players who call their own hits. It is incredibly difficult for refs to check hits, but if there is a disagreement, utilize our referees to make a good call on the situation.
5. What team or unit will I be in and how do I know the difference between the sides?
If you PreRegister EARLY, you can choose your unit. 1st to register gets 1st choice. We cannot guarantee placement on your preferred team – but pre-registering early will get you the best chance! Once the units get full, we will start posting their unavailability. If you wait until you get to the field to register, you will be put in a unit that needs you (most likely the 82nd or the Czech units because they enter later). But you can still have a great time no matter what team you’re on. It is best to PreRegister, especially if you have a particular unit you would like to be in or only have a specific color uniform.
The sides will be differentiated by different colored uniforms (tan = WARSAW , and green = NATO). If you do not have the correct color uniform for your side preference on game day, you will have one of two options: Play for the correct side as indicated by your uniform color OR you may leave (no refunds). Do NOT attempt to mislead another player as to what side you are on. Each player will also have an identification badge and bracelet that will match their uniform color.
6. Will there be water at the Dead zones?
YES. We encourage regular hydration breaks!
We will have good drinking water at the camping area and all dead zones and at other stations around the battle field, including the aid vehicles. We still highly recommend carrying some sort of water container, such as a hydrostorm/camelback/canteen.
7. Do you have airsoft guns for rent?
No, we do not. However, there will be plenty of vendors at the event, and they will have some good deals on airsoft weapons, as well.
To further elaborate - we do not rent air tanks either. We will rent paintball masks for those who do not have adequate face protection - the rental fee for the mask is $10.00 for the weekend along with a $10.00 deposit, refundable once the mask is turned in in good condition.
8. Where are the field boundaries?
The boundaries will be marked by orange or yellow tape. This is a large field. If you come into areas that look like homes, business, neighborhoods, or pastures, chances are you have gone too far. Be sure to print off a game map
9. Do I have to complete the special mission brief to be in a special unit?
Yes. All special units, which include US Special Forces and Soviet Spetsnaz will need to be briefed . The reason is that these units will be tasked with unconventional warfare tactics, and will need to understand their requirements. This briefing will be on Friday afternoon - time to be announced prior to game day. Those players who have been approved by their general to act as "snipers" will also have a special briefing they will need to attend in order to enter the field at velocities over 400 fps. As a reminder - SNIPERS MUST BE AUTHORIZED AS SNIPERS BY THEIR COMMANDING GENERAL. They will issue the sniper cards. Contact your general for authorization if you are interested in being a sniper.
10. Can I be an officer or commander?
All positions of command, from squad leader to company commanders are decided, and appointed by the Divisional Commanders (Generals). If you are interested, contact them directly through the unit page that you are most interested in or through the forums. Divisional commanders are selected and appointed by the game designer.
11. Can we have campfires and cook our own food?
Campfires will be allowed with a fire ring, or Coleman stove etc. You can bring food to cook also. You will not be 'required' to eat at the field. We, of course, encourage you to try our vendors (most require you to bring cash for purchases) Please refer to the camping rules under the FIELD INFO page.
12. When does the first game actually start?
All of our scheduling information can be found on the DEBRIEFING page but in short, H-Hour, Fulda Gap 2017 will be 10:00 am Saturday. That is when 'Game On' is sounded. The Americans and Germans will be inserting into their bases as early as 0800. Latecomers will be forced to join the airborne units, which do not insert until 1200. You MUST go through safety orientation to play (definitely a time saver to watch the online video and take the online safety quiz!), and that means you have to be there no later than Saturday at 0700 to get through the lines. We highly recommend getting to the field on Friday to get everything taken care of before the game starts!
13. Can I use a laser sight?
You cannot use a laser pointer sight. It could damage a person's retina if accidentally shined in their eyes. However, some sights have a laser dot in the viewfinder, these may be used, as long as a beam does not project from the sight.
14. What do I get for my pre-registration entrance fee?
Your fee entitles you to play all in all of the game phases during the weekend, and to camp for the entire weekend if you would like. You will be entered in a number of drawings for prizes, including the famous CDWC end of game door prizes. You can participate in any of the activities without extra fees. Should you need air fills for Polarstars - air will be available at no additional charge.
15. If something happens and I can't attend, what is your refund policy?
Your pre-registration or registration fees are not refundable. However, the player package you have purchased is transferrable and you may sell your registration to another player. Just let us know if you have someone else taking your place and we will adjust the registration. AGAIN - We do not refund player fees. There is no rain date for this event. We will play, come sun or come rain. If you need to transfer your registration to another player, please send us the original order identification #, your name, and the new player information to info@fuldagap.com.
16. Can I use grenades?
Yes, you can use smoke grenades, and they will be sold at the event. The only restriction we have on smoke grenades is NO HOT SMOKE (nothing that needs to be ignited or has a fuse). If it happens to be dry, smoke grenades will be prohibited! We will announce this at the event. NO HOMEMADE GRENADES of any kind. Only manufactured units will be allowed. We do not permit trip wires or land mines. YELLOW smoke is a color designated for GENERALS only. Do not set off YELLOW smoke without their permission or you may end up costing your side a LOT of points.
17. Can I use a gun that shoots over 400 fps with .20s, or 375 with .25g BBs?
Yes, under very limited circumstances. You would be deemed a "sniper" and you must abide by the Sniper rule set. No weapons shooting over 500 fps are permitted on our field. Any player must be aware of the MED (Minimum Engagement Distances) - for snipers, is 100 feet. Any special weapons or positions but be approved prior to the game by the team leader's council. Anyone wanting to use a sniper rifle over 400 fps (.20g) or 375 FPS (.25g) must be on an established airsoft team and have approval of their team leader to perform in this role during Fulda Gap 2018. However, only the generals can issue the limited number of sniper assignment cards available. If you have specific questions about whether you can be a sniper - we encourage you to get in touch with your side's General to get their authorization and we, of course, are happy to answer any additional questions. Sniper positions are limited.
A RECENT ADDENDUM to this question has been "WHAT GRAM BB MUST I USE TO PLAY"?
The answer to this is simply: Players must use .25 gram bbs and chrono under 375 fps.
Our insurance requirement is this: Unless a player is designated as a sniper and agrees to abide by sniper rules (special training) - players must play UNDER 400 fps and extend the courtesy to other players of a minimum of 30 feet MED. The insurance does not require us to restrict the kind of bbs used, just the weight, nor do we make players buy "OURS". Use what works best in your gun - but make sure what you carry through the chrono range is also what you carry onto the field. There will be severe penalties for those found shooting hot on the field (read as "removed from the game").
18. Can I use night vision equipment for the night game?
Yes. However, it cannot interfere with the safe, normal wear of your goggles. You cannot remove your goggles for any reason while on the field. It is dangerous, and if a referee sees you, you will be told to leave the field. There will be a limit of 15 night vision units per side and no limits on flashlights or spotlights.
19. Can I "reserve" a camping site?
Unfortunately, no. We have over 15 acres to camp on, and it is first come, first choice- there will be plenty of room if you get here early! You will be assigned an general area to camp (with your side) when you check in. You will be placed with other players from your unit according the Unit camping map.
20. Can I take pictures or movies on the playing field?
You are allowed to take pictures and movies for your own personal use, not for sale to others, or redistribution. There will be professional photographers taking pictures, as well as reporters. If you do not want your picture taken, please advise the camera personnel and try to stay out of the photos. Press is welcome! There is a press application available to you. Please contact us at info@fuldagap.com for information.
21. Does my Mom/Dad (or guest) have to pay to just watch me?
No way. Only players (participants) are required to pay the registration fee. You can bring whoever you like, and there is no charge! If you are a player, your guests are also welcome to camp with you as long as they follow the camping rules! Anyone going onto the field of play, regardless of whether they are holding a airsoft gun or a camera, MUST complete a field liability waiver and have the appropriate face protection.
22. Need referees?
Always! Contact info@fuldagap.com for more info. There will be a mandatory ref training held this year. Date to be announced soon. If you want to ref, show up at Command Decisions for the training. Stay tuned to our facebook page (Fulda Gap Scenario Game) for announcements on dates and times for the training.
23. What about prizes?
Prizes will be provided at the end of the game by our sponsors and the field. Our prize packages are becoming quite famous, especially the " almost everybody leaves with something" package.
24. Do you need vendors?
Our vendor spaces are filling but we still have room for a few more! Please feel free to contact Ferg at ferg@tacdiv.com for more information. Vendor information and applications can be located on the "SPONSOR" page.
25. Do you permit the use of "Thunder B's"?
No. Reason 1 - players lose them when they are on the field with 1000 players. Reason 2 - Ferg reminds you to remember that flash bangs don't fit within the historical theme of this game, and so there's no strategic advantage for players to use them. They are awesome, but too difficult to use in this large of a game.
26. Do you have an ATM on premise at CDWC?
No we do not - remember, we are a "primitive" player's field. There is an ATM within 2 minutes (car) 5-10 minute walk at the local convenience store. You will want to bring cash with you, as many of the vendors do not have credit card capabilities.
27. Is there a place where I can charge my batteries?
Limited but yes, there are a few places where batteries may be hooked in. We kindly request that no electrical cords/extensions be disturbed as they are usually hooked into something critical - like vendor computers or lighting. We highly recommend that you bring additional batteries.
28. If my gun breaks is there someone there who can fix it?
The one thing we can sing high praises to is the COMMUNITY of airsofters that come to this event. The vendors have gun teching services AND most players find that a neighbor camper may have excellent teching skills as well. The store at CDWC may be able to help you as well. Just ask!
29. How do I register for the game AND how do I make sure that my team gets to be on the same side/unit?
Registration for this game is located on this website under the unit pages (NATO or WARSAW) and is a prepaid reservation system. Be certain you are registering for AIRSOFT Fulda Gap from October 13-15 and not the paintball event! Our new software does allow you to complete your registration AND fill out your waiver online, which is then stored in our database. You are STRONGLY encouraged to print out the waiver and bring it, along with your registration confirmation email, with you to the field when you check in for the game. To be sure your team gets placed together - register at the same time (if possible!) That's a no fail way to get everyone where they need to be. If that's not possible, be sure that all of your team completes the registration entry that asks for "party name" and agree on what your team members should enter. We try, very hard, to catch everyone who has registered by the team name to make sure they remain together. As we get closer to game day and units begin to cap (fill up), keeping people together gets harder and sometimes impossible. This is why we encourage EARLY REGISTRATION! You save money this way as well!
30. Do you permit players to play only one day?
In the past we have - and we've ended up regretting it. This game is designed to last the weekend and is balanced (player ratios per side) accordingly. When people come only one day and leave the next - the side balances get thrown off. We try to avoid (like the plague) any accusations that the sides were off balanced, so the answer to this question is no, no one day play rates.
31. I've heard there's an online safety briefing this year? How do I get to it?
Here you go!
STEP 1: GO WATCH THE SAFETY VIDEO (new video for airsoft specifics!)
http://youtu.be/tF1dTzsXfcA
STEP 2: TAKE THE SAFETY BRIEFING QUIZ

STEP 3: PRINT OUT YOUR QUIZ COMPLETION CERTIFICATION (must pass the test with a 90 or 100%)
